ACAC Partners to Open Mebane Food Pantry

Looking to fill the void, a new food pantry is set to open in Mebane. Starting Jan. 20, Manna Market will serve food to those in need from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month in the fellowship hall of First Baptist Church, 301 S. Third St. The food pantry ministry is opening in partnership with Allied Churches of Alamance County, Manna Market Coordinator Ken Hunt said.

“When Loaves and Fishes closed, there was no place in Mebane for the needy people to get food,” Hunt said. “People were having to go to the Allied (Churches) food bank in Burlington, and one did open in Efland. (But) it left people kind of stranded.” Loaves and Fishes closed its offices in late 2013, spurring Allied Churches to begin its food pantry.

Area Mebane churches will collect food to be distributed at FBC Mebane on the third Tuesday of each month, Hunt said. Thirty Mebane families are currently seeking food from Allied Churches, and Hunt said he expects more people to receive food assistance from the local food pantry once more people hear about it...
