The Plates are Stacked! Thank You for Helping Reach the Goal!

After launching an urgent plea for support in preparation for a total kitchen renovation, Allied Churches of Alamance County has surpassed a $45,000 goal in just one month’s time. The organization’s “Stack the Plates” campaign set out to cover the costs of 15,000 meals for community members in need during an eight-week renovation.

Currently, ACAC’s lunch and dinner community meals serve an average of 300 people per day. The free daily meals have become a necessary provision in one of Burlington’s most vulnerable neighborhoods. Funding from the City of Burlington’s Community Development Block Grant is being used to update the ACAC kitchen to commercial-grade standards.

With its kitchen down completely, ACAC is purchasing food for bagged meals, and has had a number of restaurants supply hot meals at discounted prices. Daily food costs are upwards of $900, so ACAC is extremely grateful for the community effort to “Stack the Plates.”

“We are absolutely overwhelmed with the support we have received, and checks are still coming in. We are proud to be part of a community that sees a need and acts to fill it. Not only have folks donated money, but they have offered to volunteer or cater a meal, just to help in any way they can,” said ACAC Executive Director Kim Crawford.

Construction on the ACAC kitchen is set for completion by August 31. Director Kim Crawford shared her hopes for the future saying, “We treat the people that walk through our doors with the dignity and respect that they deserve. That’s why we hold our kitchen to such a high standard. The renovation will help us to serve our neighbors in the safest, most efficient way possible.”
