Part-time (25-30 hrs/wk), $9/hr

Summary: The Driver is responsible for transporting guest from Allied Churches Shelter to the programs that the guests are intended to go. Drivers are also responsible for daily logs and ensuring that the vehicles are visually safe to operate.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Support Allied Churches vision creating and delivering impactful service plans for participants that focus on achieving outcomes in the areas housing, education, employment, mental health wellness, relationships, and overall well-being.
  • Collaborate with on-site / local resources to help participants address / overcome barriers
  • Effectively and proactively communicate participant and/or program progress and concerns
  • Ensure the recordkeeping / reporting system is accurately maintained
  • Complete program-related reporting on-time and accurately

Focus area duties and responsibilities –Driver:

1. Provides transportation for clients to and from shelter and drop-in, following a daily route schedule.
2. Adjusts daily routes according to known changes and cancelations.
3. Completes transportation logs for each passenger and each daily route.
4. Follows trip readiness procedures: visually inspects vehicles, monitors fluid levels, dashboard warning signals, and tire pressure; warms up or cools down vehicles; cleans windows, headlights and taillights; assures adequate supply in vehicle or needed forms and equipment; removes snow and ice on and around vehicles as needed, reports needed maintenance and repairs to the Facilities / Kitchen Manager.
5. Observes safety procedures, including the following: observes all traffic laws, positions vehicle when parked so that passenger loading/unloading does not occur in traffic, stands at passenger doors to assist with loading and unloading all passengers, uses safety belts, monitor and enforces safe passenger behavior en-route and during loading or unloading.
6. Prepares and submits written reports of incidents (passenger sickness or injury) and accidents; reports any moving violations which occur.
7. Assists with movement of vehicles to service businesses for maintenance.
8. Uses mobile telephone to communicate as needed with Administration office, Drop-In / Resource Center Office, or guests.
9. Adheres to all Allied Churches, county, state, and federal policies and regulations related to transportation services.
10. Regularly attends staff meetings.
11. Maintains client confidentiality in accordance with Allied Churches policies.

Other duties and responsibilities:

  • Represent Allied Churches and programs appropriately to volunteers, donors, outside agencies, and the general public
  • Accept donations and hand out donation receipts.
  • Provide a range of sensitive and appropriate services to people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness;
  • Attend and participate in trainings and community events as necessary.
  • Participate in trainings and meetings, demonstrating a positive and motivating "team approach" when interacting with team members and actively participate in ongoing development and strength building of the Allied Churches Team.
  • Contribute to maintaining high standards of all property and equipment
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by Executive Director or Supervisor.
  • Education And/Or Experience: High School / college education and/or three (3) years’ experience needed to perform duties properly.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid North Carolina Driver’s License, ability to pass a background check.
